COVINGTON - The ever-popular Concerts on the Square series will kick off this Thursday.
Presented by The Arts Association in Newton County and sponsored by BB&T, the concerts are traditionally a time of fun and relaxation for residents of all ages.
They begin at noon each Thursday of May on the historic downtown Covington Square.
This year's series features an eclectic bunch of musicians.
"We try to offer a variety of genres of music and to tantalize the palate and make it fun," said Michelle Bryant Johnson, marketing director for the arts association.
Johnson said several hundred people typically attend each concert, adding that the ambiance of the Square is a big draw.
Plus, "It's a celebration of spring, and it's free," she said. "It's a great way for the community to connect."
Those in attendance are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and a picnic lunch.
In case of inclement weather, the concerts will be held at the Turner Lake Recreation Complex, located at 6185 Turner Lake Road.
