Salem blanks Alcovy

COVINGTON - The Salem baseball team moved to 20-4 on the season and 18-4 in Region 8-AAAA play with a 4-0 win over Alcovy on Friday.

Brandon Crumbley got the win on the mound, allowing just one hit in six innings of work.

"Brandon pitched really well and our defense played great," Salem coach Chris Davis said. "They made the plays they needed to in the field. We struggled stringing together hits. We ended up with about eight hits, but we just couldn't put them together when we had runners on base."

Offensively, the Seminoles received RBIs from Logan Singleton, Drew Dentler and Taylor Lamb.

With the win, the Seminoles still have an outside shot at second place in the region, although Loganville's 9-7 win in eight innings over Heritage on Friday did not help the Seminoles' chances.

Salem needs to win its last two games and have Loganville lose two of its last three.

The Seminoles collected a 2-1 victory over Clarke Central in a make-up game played in Athens on Thursday
