CONYERS - A man who walked into a Waffle House on Salem Road wearing striped shorts and a plastic bag tied over his face robbed the restaurant at gunpoint early Wednesday afternoon.
According to a report filed by Rockdale County Sheriff's Office Deputy Robert Wilson, video surveillance from the restaurant showed the suspect was in a white four-door passenger vehicle with dark tinted windows. The car pulled into the parking lot and stopped near the Dumpsters on the back side of the store around 1:20 p.m. The man, wearing a gray, plastic bag over his head with eye holes torn out, then entered the store holding a black semi-automatic handgun. He pointed the gun directly at the waitress and demanded that she give him the money from the cash register. "The suspect came around the counter and had (the victim) open the cash register and took the entire tray and ran out," Wilson said. The man exited through the front door of the restaurant and got back into the vehicle where a getaway driver was waiting. The two were last seen driving south on Salem Road toward Newton County, according to the report. RCSO Investigator Glen Cannon said the only people in the restaurant at the time were the waitress and a cook. The suspect was described as a light-skinned black man wearing a gray long-sleeved shirt with a white undershirt. He was wearing white, red and yellow striped shorts and all white high-top tennis shoes.
