Local schools sending more to state

LOGANVILLE - The final day of the Region 8-AAAA girls track and field meet yielded solid results for the local schools.

Eastside's Asia Palmer and Heritage's Miauna Jones topped the list of state qualifiers by winning region championships in their respective events.

Palmer took the top spot in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 23.19 seconds, while Jones captured first in the 100 hurdles in 15.12. Jones also placed fourth in the 300 hurdles (48.47).

Eastside finished first and second in the 800 as teammate Whitney Martin also earned a state berth with a time of 2:24.46.

Eastside also qualified its 4x400 relay team, finishing second with a time of 4:03.67.

Alcovy's Tahapenes Outlaw earned a state berth, taking second in the 100 with a time of 12.22. Alcovy also qualified its 4x800 team with a second-place finish in 11:36.

Overall, Cedar Shoals took the top spot with 122.75 points. Clarke Central followed in second place with 106. Winder-Barrow (third, 43), Loganville (fourth, 41), Dacula (fifth, 40), Alcovy (sixth, 36), Heritage (seventh, 32), Eastside (eighth, 31), Madison County (ninth, 25) and Salem (10th, nine) rounded out the top 10.

Other runners scoring points on the day included Alcovy's Natasha Jackson (third, 200, 26.15), Heritage's Jada Fambrough (third, 800, 2:26.05), Eastside's Kimberly Thomas (fifth, 400, 1:01.76), and Salem's Kentrell White (fifth, 200, 28.67) and Shannon Christian (fourth, 800, 2:29.86).

Alcovy also scored in two other relay events. The Lady Tigers took fifth in the 4x400 (4:11.99) and sixth in the 4x100 (50.99). Salem placed fourth in the 4x400 (4:09.53).
