COVINGTON - A 27-year-old Covington man was killed Saturday afternoon as a result of a two-vehicle crash on Lower River Road, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Tellis Wood of 235 Hazelhurst Drive died at Atlanta Medical Center after he was transported by Rescue Air 1, said GSP Trooper J. Slayton.
Slayton was called to the scene of what he described as a head-on collision on Lower River Road, between Stewart Road and Mote Road, about 12:15 p.m.
He said Wood was driving a 2004, four-door Oldsmobile Alero and was traveling north when a Dodge Ram pickup driven by a 29-year-old Covington woman traveling south veered into his lane of travel.
"She lost control of her vehicle, crossed over into the northbound lane and struck Mr. Wood," Slayton said.
The woman suffered abrasions from air bag deployment and did not require hospitalization, Slayton said.
"Blood was taken from the female and toxicology results are pending," Slayton said. "Due to the seriousness of the crash, it was turned over to SCRT (Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team) and the investigation is ongoing."
