COVINGTON - A Covington man has claimed a $1.2 million Fantasy 5 jackpot, his second win in 12 years.
Jimmy Jay Shuman, 37, matched all five winning numbers in the April 1 Fantasy 5 drawing and won $1,212,899. In 1996, he won $40,823 playing Fantasy 5, according to a press release issued by the Georgia Lottery. A lottery spokeswoman said Monday that Shuman had declined to be interviewed by the media. Shuman called the Georgia Lottery's Player Information Hot Line on the night of the drawing and discovered he had won. He claimed his prize April 11 at Georgia Lottery headquarters in downtown Atlanta. "I couldn't believe it at first," Shuman said in a prepared statement. "I was in disbelief." Shuman said he plans to "just invest and travel a little bit" with his winnings. Kroger No. 0436, 5341 Highway 20 S. in Covington, sold the winning ticket. The store will receive a retailer incentive bonus of $18,000. Just three days after Shuman's win, Conyers resident Andrea Evans-Northern won $1 million in a Georgia Lottery instant game at the Honey Creek BP, also on Ga. Highway 20.
