CONYERS - With the final leg of 8-AAAA's 24-game region baseball schedule almost here, the seedings for the state playoffs are anything but clear.
Heritage won 9-1 Friday night over Alcovy, moving the Patriots' region record to 17-0 on the season and making them the favorite to win their fourth straight region championship. But it's the last three state playoff spots which are up for grabs that provide the most intrigue. Loganville is in sole possession of second place with a 13-3 record. Meanwhile, Salem dropped to 12-4 after a 10-9 loss to Madison County on Friday night. The Seminoles are third in the region. Winder-Barrow (11-5), Madison County (11-5), Rockdale (9-7) and Habersham Central (9-8) are all fighting for the fourth and final playoff spot. Rockdale closed out its week with a 9-5 win over Clarke Central on Friday. Buck Farmer led the charge with a three-run homer, while Mitchell Farmer and Landon Blackwell each belted two-run doubles. Blackwell got the win on the mound. The playoff picture will further take shape Monday. The Bulldogs will take on Jackson County at home. Heritage is on the road at Winder-Barrow and Salem plays host to Dacula. Brandon Evans can be reached at brandon.evans@rockdalecitizen.com SideBar: Standings Region 8-AAAA Standings: 1.
