DACULA - The Eastside girls soccer team saw its season come to an end in the Region 8-AAAA playoffs Thursday night.
Dacula (12-2) scored three times in the first half and never looked back, crusing to a 7-0 victory over the Lady Eagles (8-6). The Lady Falcons advance to play Loganville at 5 p.m. today in the 8-AAAA semifinals.
Emily Kubal gave Dacula a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute, scoring under the crossbar on the blast from just inside the top of the box.
If not for the play of Eastside keeper Kayla Jones, the Lady Falcons would have built a bigger lead.
Jones made several sensational saves in the half. She robbed Dacula's Lexi Vassell on a pair of point-blank shots deep in the box to keep Eastside's deficit at one.
However, Dacula's Alexis Scott scored on a breakaway from near midfield with 18:15 left in the half for a 2-0 advantage.
But once again, Jones stood tall in goal for Eastside, stopping two excellent scoring chances by Dacula's Bryna Lamb in the final 15 minutes of the first half.
The Lady Falcons scored again right before halftime. This time, Vassell beat Jones to give Dacula a 3-0 halftime advantage.
In the second half, Jones continued her strong play for Eastside, making several good saves.
But Dacula scored twice in a 47-second span to squash any hopes of a comeback by the Lady Eagles.
First, Scott tallied the Lady Falcons' fourth goal at 7:45. And then, Lamb added their fifth goal on a penalty kick at 8:32 after she was pulled down in the box.
Eastside's Ashton Tehrani replaced Jones in goal midway through the second half and continued the strong level of goalkeeping with eight saves.
Dacula tacked on its last two goals in the final 19:10 of the contest.
Eastside's offense never threatened to score, as the vast majority of the contest was played in the Lady Eagles' defensive end.
The loss ended a breakout season for the Lady Eagles, who had won only 11 total games in their four previous seasons.
