Prep baseball roundup: All Rockdale teams chalk up region wins

CONYERS - Junior pitcher Anthony Bazzani tossed a two-hitter to lead Heritage (16-2 overall, 16-0 Region 8-AAAA) to a 1-0 victory over visiting Madison County on Wednesday at Danny Blue Field.

Bazzani finished the game with seven strikeouts and two walks for the Patriots. He also received a key defensive play in the top of the seventh to help preserve the shutout.

Madison County had a runner on third with one out in the top of the seventh. Heritage third baseman Tyler Austin combined with catcher Chunk Smith to get the runner out at the plate on a ground ball.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Austin led off the inning and reached on an error. Two batters later, Smith delivered an RBI single to drive in the game's only run.

Heritage returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Friday at home against Alcovy.

Salem 6, Habersham Central 1

MOUNT AIRY - Drew Dentler did it all for the Seminoles (14-3 overall, 12-3 Region 8-AAAA) in their victory over the Raiders.

Dentler, a senior, went the distance on the mound to pick up the victory, tossing a three-hitter. He helped his own cause by collecting two hits and scoring two runs for Salem.

The Seminoles had a 1-0 lead before scoring once in the sixth and four times in the seventh to break the game open.

Dustin Dunlop, Jake Dyer, Taylor Lamb and Brandon Crumbley all drove runs in for the Seminoles. Dunlop also had two hits.

Salem will return to action Friday in a game at Madison County in Danielsville.

Rockdale 8, Dacula 3

DACULA - Jay Shirley and Nakeem Forte each drove in three runs to lead the Bulldogs (8-7 overall, 7-7 Region 8-AAAA) to a road victory over the Falcons.

Senior Mitch Farmer pitched six innings to pick up the victory on the mound for Rockdale. His brother, Buck, worked the seventh inning to close out the contest.

Shirley was 3-for-4 on the night to lead the Bulldogs, while Buck Farmer also chipped in a 3-for-5 effort at the plate with an RBI.

Forte drove in three runs without a hit.

Rockdale returns to action at 5:55 p.m. today at home against Habersham Central, the second of its four straight games this week. The Bulldogs host Clarke Central on Friday and are scheduled to play at Madison County on Saturday.
