Georgia State freshman catcher Catherine Lee was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week for the week of March 24 to 30.
It's the second Rookie of the Week honor this season for the former Eastside standout. During the week, Lee had a .500 batting average and hit her 11th home run against James Madison on March 30. Lee tallied eight RBIs and scored five runs. Lee leads the conference in runs batted in with 46 and runs scored with 36. For Georgia State, she is third in batting average at .407 and first in slugging percentage at .778. GOLF Jones notches fourth-place finish for Mercer Heritage's Bill Jones rallied with a 3-under 68 in the final round to claim a fourth-place individual finish at Larry Nelson Collegiate on Tuesday. Jones started the final round of the 54-hole event in ninth place, but he quickly moved up the leader board with eight birdies en route to a 68. Jones finished with a tournament-high 14 birdies. He was also second in par 5 scoring (4.44 strokes) and third in par 4 scoring (4.03). TRACK Heritage trio shines for Kennesaw State Josh James, Michael Guntner and Soibhan Wolcott all made contributions for Kennesaw State at the Alabama Relays last weekend. James set a new Kennesaw State school record with his fourth-place finish in the men's 400-meter hurdles. The freshman posted a time of 53.82 seconds. James also participated on KSU's fourth-place finishing 1,600-meter relay team. Guntner, also a freshman, helped the Owls establish a new school record in the men's 3,200-meter relay with a time of 7 minutes, 52.99 seconds. Wolcott, a sophomore, recorded a sixth-place finish in the women's 800-meter run, posting a time of 2 minutes, 18.33 seconds. It was the first outdoor race of the season for the current Atlantic Sun 800-meter outdoor champion. She also helped the Owls set a new school record of 3 minutes, 58.71 seconds in the 1,600-meter relay, and she finished 18th in the 1,500-meter run at 5 minutes, 1.42 seconds. BASEBALL Owens gets another win for Bobcats Former Heritage standout Brandon Owens picked up the victory in relief as Georgia State College and University beat Lander 4-2 last Friday. Owens, who improved to 5-1 this season, allowed only one hit in one inning of work. Chisman records scoreless relief stint for Eagles Salem's Tony Chisman tossed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief in Georgia Southern's 7-6 loss to Kennesaw State on Wednesday. Chisman, a freshman, has a record of 0-0 in 11 appearances for the Eagles with a 5.54 ERA.
