CONYERS - The Rockdale lacrosse team dropped a 15-6 decision to Sprayberry on a cold and breezy Thursday at Reid Memorial Stadium.
The game was a shootout from the start as both teams came out the gates strong.
Sprayberry drew first blood with 18:26 left until halftime, but Rockdale's Whitney Dixe answered with a goal and tied the game two minutes later.
However, Sprayberry railed off five more goals over the next 12 minutes to go up 6-1 with 4:24 left until the break.
Dixe scored again with 3:54 left until halftime, but Sprayberry matched it with another score a minute later.
Rockdale got on the board first in the second half with Dixe's third goal of the game, but Sprayberry responded with seven straight scores to go up 14-3.
Dixe knotted her fourth goal of the game with 6:58 left to make it 14-4, but Sprayberry scored again a minute later to make it 15-4.
Rockdale did tack on two goals in the final two minutes of the game, but it was too little, too late.
Sprayberry received nine of its 15 goals from the Griffin sisters - Lindsay and Kelsey.
Rockdale was led by Dixe's four goals. Chandler Foster and Melanie Wright also tallied goals in the game for Rockdale.
Despite the lopsided loss, the real story of the game was the numerous penalties called on Rockdale. All-told, Rockdale given seven yellow cards.
"Mentally, we just got out of our game," Rockdale coach Holly Hamilton said. "Still, we didn't quit. We never quit. I just wish this game would have had a different outcome. We don't like to lose like this."
The loss drops Rockdale 3-6 on the season with the next game slated for April 14 against McEachern.
