CONYERS - Rockdale Emergency Relief was featured Sunday during "Oprah's Big Give."
According to the ABC Web site, a contestant on the television show was sent to Conyers with $1,000 to help someone in need identified by producers, who was a client at RER. The contestant then raised another $1,000 to help the person with living expenses, said RER Executive Director Ashley Roesler. According to Oprah Winfrey's Web site, "Oprah's Big Give" is a new reality series by Harpo Production in which contestants are challenged to help total strangers "so that they can feel the high of giving." The show will air in eight one-hour episodes. Ten contestants were given a picture and the name of a complete stranger, whom they had to help in five days. At the end of the show, one of the contestants will receive a cash prize. The episode in Conyers was taped in April 2007, Roesler said.More like this story
