SOCIAL CIRCLE - Abbey Hospice in Social Circle is offering a way to remember and celebrate the lives of departed loved ones with a Remembrance Walk set for Nov. 10.
Anyone who has lost a loved one is welcome to participate, said Darlene Alley, community liaison for the hospice. The event will take place at 9 a.m., with walkers meeting at the gazebo beside the Social Circle Post Office on Hightower Trail. Participants can choose between a 2-mile route or a three-fourths of a mile route. Volunteers will be available to push wheelchairs and help with other special needs so everyone can participate, she said. "This is the first time we've done it. We've been tossing that idea around actually for a couple of years. People want a way to celebrate life. A lot of times when we lose someone, we get to mourn them at funeral services and things like that, but then to have an event where people can come and celebrate all the memories and good things they remember about them is the kind of event we wanted to have," she said. Participants are encouraged to gather friends and family members and walk together. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. The walk will be at leisurely pace and is not a competition or athletic event. The event is free. Anyone interested in participating is asked to RSVP to Abbey Hospice by Monday at 770-464-5858. Abbey Hospice provides emotional and physical support for people with limited life expectancy with an interdisciplinary team of nurses, social workers, chaplains and volunteers who provide care for patients and families.
