Young Harris team captain Heather Dunn finished fifth overall in the 2007 National Collegiate Junior College Athletic Association Region XVII women's cross country championship last Saturday at Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland.

With the fifth-place finish, Dunn, a sophomore, was named to the all-region team for the second straight season.

The Heritage product finished second on her team and helped Young Harris collect a second-place team finish in the region meet.

Henderson plays big role in UCF victory

Former Heritage standout Chance Henderson recorded his first career interception in Central Florida's 44-23 victory over Tulsa last Saturday.

Henderson, a sophomore, picked off the pass in the fourth quarter. He also had three solo tackles, two assists and a half sack for the Golden Knights.

Henderson has made five consecutive starts for UCF.

Ahonen shines as DB at Randolph-Macon

Junior Scott Ahonen is enjoying a productive football season at Randolph-Macon in Ashland, Va.

The defensive back has played in all seven games so far, recording 25 solo tackles and 14 assists for the Yellow Jackets. He also has three tackles for loss for minus-15 yards, one pass breakup and one forced fumble.

Ahonen started at cornerback on Salem's 2004 state semifinalist squad.

Morgan records assist in Columbus State victory

Rockdale's Lindsey Morgan recorded an assist in Columbus State's 6-0 Peach Belt Conference victory over South Carolina-Aiken last Saturday.

The junior midfielder picked up her assist off a corner kick in the 66th minute of play.

After 16 games, Morgan is second on the squad in assists with four.

Jones posts ninth-place finish for Mercer

Former Citizen Boys Golf of the Year Bill Jones shot a 1-under-par 70 in the opening round for Mercer at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate hosted by Vanderbilt last Sunday on the Roper's Knob Course at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.

The junior converted five birdies for the Bears during the round, which was tied for the most in the tournament.

The final two rounds were canceled due to weather. Mercer University tied for 12th overall.

Quinn paces Norfolk State in blocks

Heather Quinn, the Citizen's 2006 Volleyball Player of the Year, is continuing to make a large impact in her freshman season at Norfolk State University.

Quinn leads NSU in total blocks with 52 and is third on the team in kills with 161.

Kennesaw State University's Caitlin Dingle scored her 13th goal of the season off a header in a 3-1 loss last Saturday at Tennessee State University in Johnson City. ... Jennifer Rhodes, a senior and a former Salem student, finished 60th overall for Clayton State University in the Peach Belt Athletic Conference women's cross country championship last Saturday at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans.
