COVINGTON - Newton County authorities arrested a man earlier this week on child molestation charges.
The suspect, Guy Michael Cook, 55, of College Station, Texas, was booked into the Newton County Detention Center on Monday, for allegedly having inappropriate sexual contact with his stepdaughter. Authorities say Cook committed the alleged acts between 1998 and 2002 when he lived with the child and her mother. According to Lt. Bill Watterson, spokesman for the Newton County Sheriff's Office, the victim was 9 years old when the alleged abuse began. Cook reportedly left the home after the alleged acts took place, Watterson said. Cook has been charged with two counts of child molestation, two counts of cruelty to children, incest and sexual battery.
