From left, Lyndal Bedford, Lake Dowling and Rishi Amin work together to calculate the right proportions of ingredients to make homemade ice cream in the math/chemistry enrichment class during Rockdale County Public School's week-long fall enrichment camp earlier this semester. Craig Dowling, associate superintendent for instructional services at RCPS, said 165 students in grades three though eight participated in the eight classes offered: science, math, language arts, creative writing and creative art. More than 1,000 students were invited and 323 applications were returned. Eligible students must have "demonstrated high achievement in the previous school year" on two of three areas of the CRCT or received A/B honor roll, Dowling said. After a lottery, 180 students were selected. The school system will hold another enrichment camp during February break and a two-week camp in the summer.
