College notebook: Morgan records assist in sixth straight game

Junior midfielder Lindsey Morgan has recorded an assist in six straight games for the Columbus State soccer team.

The former Rockdale standout started the streak with an assist in a 2-0 victory over Lander on Oct. 12 and has picked up at least one assist in every game since then, including Tuesday's 7-0 victory over USC-Aiken in the first round of the Peach Belt Athletic Conference playoffs.

During her streak, Morgan has recorded one goal and six assists. She is now tied with another former Rockdale standout, freshman Jessica Woodson, for the team lead in assists with seven.

Woodson collected a goal and four assists in a 12-0 victory over Georgia Southwestern on Oct. 24.

The Cougars won the PBAC regular season title and are playing in the conference Final Four this weekend.

Turner tallies goal for North Georgia

Katie Turner, a sophomore, notched her first goal of the season for North Georgia's soccer team in a 10-0 win over Georgia Southwestern last Saturday.

Turner, who played at Rockdale, finished the season with a goal and an assist for the Saints, who lost to Armstrong Atlantic 1-0 in the first round of the Peach Belt Athletic Conference playoffs.

Dingle's goal helps Owls clinch A-Sun title

Kennesaw State University's Caitlin Dingle notched her 15th goal of the soccer season in the last 20 minutes at Mercer University on Halloween.

By winning 3-1, the Owls recorded their second straight Atlantic Sun Conference regular season title.

Rockdale County's all-time leading goal scorer led the Owls in shots during the match with four.

KSU locked the first place finish and will receive a bye during the first round of the conference tournament, which will be held at the KSU Soccer Complex. The Owls' first game in the tournament will be Thursday.

Henderson tallies eight tackles in UCF victory

Starting sophomore middle linebacker Chance Henderson recorded eight total tackles (five solos and three assists) during Central Florida's 34-17 win over Southern Mississippi last Saturday in Hattiesburg, Miss.

The Heritage football product has made six consecutive starts at middle linebacker for the Golden Knights.

Former Salem standout Torrell Johnson, a sophomore defensive tackle, added a solo tackle and assist in the victory for UCF.

Jett contributes in Skyhawks' victory

Sarah Jett, a senior at Tennessee-Martin, recorded 12 attacks and three total blocks during the Skyhawks victory over Austin Peay last Saturday.

The former Rockdale volleyball standout currently holds the fifth place in UT-Martin's volleyball record book for blocks.

Wolcott finishes 14th at A-Sun championship

Kennesaw State University's Soibhan Wolcott passed five runners in the final mile of the race to finish 14th at the Atlantic Sun Conference cross country championship at Vaughn's Gap in Percy Warner Park in Nashville.

Wolcott's 5K time was 19 minutes, 27 seconds. KSU finished second overall behind Belmont University.

The former Heritage star will also be competing for KSU's indoor track and field team, whose season begins Nov. 30 with the Clemson Opener.

Blanton tops 100-yard mark again

Former Newton Ram Chris Blanton produced another big game for the Mississippi College football team in a 45-21 victory over East Texas Baptist last Saturday in Marshall, Texas.

Blanton, a sophomore running back, carried 25 times for 130 yards and scored the Choctaws' first touchdown on a 10-yard in the first quarter.
