Methodist church to host concert on All Saints' Day

As part of an ongoing celebration of the newly restored pipe organ at Covington First United Methodist Church, Becky Ramsey and the Chancel Choir will present an All Saints' Day concert at 11 a.m. Sunday.

The concert, featuring Ramsey on the pipe organ, will present John Rutter's "Requiem." Scott Daniell will conduct.

Rutter composed the piece to deal with his grief following the death of his father in 1985.

Ramsey said that the piece is famous for its soothing nature, and as recent events in the world have acted as a stressor, the music has enjoyed an increase in popularity. "It became popular after Sept. 11, because it is very calming," she said.

The concert is the third in a series of performances highlighting the church's newly restored pipe organ, which was dedicated in March.

The next performance in the series will be a voice and organ concert on Nov. 18, at 3 p.m. featuring soprano Florence Fowler Peacock, baritone Mark Whatley, organist Becky Ramsey and pianist Alice Walker.

All concerts are presented free of charge.

The church is located at 1113 Conyers St. in Covington. For more information, call 770-786-7305 or visit www.fumccovington.org.
