CONYERS - Rockdale had seven wrestlers with winning records, helping the Bulldogs finish third in the Rockdale Duals on Saturday.
Rockdale lost to Loganville 48-36 in what turned out to be a pin or get pinned match before losing to the No. 8-ranked Ringgold 48-19.
"It was a very competitive day of wrestling. I wish we had come out a little better against Loganville," Rockdale coach Craig Hargrove said. "I felt we were flat, we wrestled their type of match and it cost us."
Against Loganville, the Bulldogs won six bouts by falls while Loganville had eight victories, including one by forfeit.
Rockdale closed out the duals with wins over Northgate (45-31), Northview (44-27) and Upson-Lee (50-24).
Jake Morris went 3-0 in the 103-pound weight class while Keyonte Watson was 2-0 at 103. Morris was 4-1 overall having wrestled two matches at 112, one class above his weight.
Luis Ponce was 4-0 at 125, including a win over Ringgold's Michael Temple. Last year in the Class AAAA state tournament Temple knocked Ponce out of medal contention.
"Luis Ponce was probably in one of the toughest weight classes here," Hargrove said. "He avenged a loss against Ringgold he lost at the state tournament last year, so we're excited about that. He's wrestling really well right now."
John Collins was 4-0 at 140 and 1-0 at 145, while Jimmy Brown dominated at 171, going 5-0.
"Those guys are doing what they need to do. They're wrestling really well right now," Hargrove said.
Hylan Taylor finished the day going 3-1. He had two wins at 112 and one at 125.
Going 3-2 were Aris Banks and Rashad Ferrell.
Banks was 3-1 at 119 and 0-1 at 125 while Ferrell was 3-1 at 189 and 0-1 at 215.
Of the 16 wrestlers seeing action for Rockdale, 12 had at least one pin to their credit. Leading the way was Ponce with four followed by Morris and Collins with three each.
