Medical technician accused of sexual battery in doctor's office

CONYERS - A woman receiving treatment at a Conyers pain clinic said a male medical technician sexually assaulted her as she was being prepared for a procedure.

According to Conyers Police Chief David Cathcart, the woman said the male medical technician, who, according to jail records, lives in Covington, was prepping her for a spinal tap Dec. 12. She was naked and lying on her stomach on an examination table when the man allegedly kissed her on her buttocks prior to receiving treatment, Cathcart said.

"As a result of that, she was uncomfortable throughout the procedure," the chief said. "It was initially reported to the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office and after they looked into it and realized the location of the doctor's office involved, they turned it over to us. After an investigation, we charged an employee there with sexual battery."

Theodore McCarthy of 4060 Silver Willow Walk, Covington, was arrested Dec. 13 and transported to the Rockdale County Jail. Cathcart added it was believed McCarthy worked at the office on a contractual basis and was not directly employed by the doctor's office.

McCarthy, 35, was released from the Rockdale jail Saturday after posting $10,000 bond, jail officials said.
