Alleged shoplifter taken into custody after returning to store

COVINGTON - A woman who allegedly shoplifted a pair of shoes from a local store last month was taken into custody by the Covington Police Department on Saturday after she reportedly returned to the scene of the crime.

About 1:30 p.m., Officer Brent Fuesting responded to The Shoe Dept. in Newton Plaza shopping center on U.S. Highway 278 after one of the store's clerks spotted the suspect, Erica Michelle Hall, 18, of 65 Pickens Road, in the store, the officer said in an incident report.

The clerk told Fuesting that Hall had stolen a pair of shoes from the store in November, and the theft was captured on surveillance camera footage. Hall was reportedly wearing the same pair of shoes she had stolen when she entered the store Saturday, Fuesting said.

When confronted with the allegation, Hall admitted she had taken the tennis shoes from the store several weeks earlier, according to the CPD incident report.

Hall was subsequently taken into custody and charged with one count of shoplifting.

In other crime news, police are looking for the person or people responsible for stealing a shower from a home under construction on Malcom Drive.

Officer Julie Cole English responded to the residence Monday and spoke to the building contractor who said an unknown person entered the home sometime over the weekend through an open carport and ripped the shower stall from the wall, damaging the surrounding pipes and frame.

The burglar then dragged the shower out of the house and fled the scene in a vehicle down a dirt road that leads to Ga. Highway 36, the officer said in an incident report.

The shower stall is described as being about 4 feet high with a seat inside.
