Prince Edward's wife gives birth to baby boy
LONDON - Britain's royal family welcomed the birth of its newest member Monday, a son born to Prince Edward and his 42-year-old wife, Sophie, Buckingham Palace said.
Edward - the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II - and Sophie, who are the Earl and Countess of Wessex, were 'absolutely thrilled,' the palace said in a statement. The baby is the eighth grandchild of the monarch and her husband, Prince Philip.
The infant weighed 6 pounds 2 ounces and was delivered by Caesarean section Monday at Frimley Park Hospital outside London.
The couple's daughter, Lady Louise, was born in November 2003.
French president linked with model Carla Bruni
PARIS - French President Nicolas Sarkozy's new love interest is supermodel-turned-singer Carla Bruni, reports said Monday after the two were photographed together at Disneyland Paris.
The respected news weekly L'Express posted a photo of the duo on its Internet site, and at least two other magazines said they would run the images.
The president's office would not comment on their status. But the daily Le Figaro, seen as close to the conservative, newly divorced president, ran a front-page image of the Italian-French Bruni on Monday with the headline: 'Carla Bruni: The President's Girlfriend.'
Reps. Mack, Bono marry in North Carolina
ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Mary Bono, who was married to late singer-turned-politician Sonny Bono and replaced him in Congress after his death, has married U.S. Rep. Connie Mack.
Bono's sister, Katherine Whitaker, told The Associated Press the couple were married Saturday in a private ceremony attended by 35 family members.
'It was fantastic,' Whitaker said. 'It was a very quiet ceremony. A spokeswoman for Mack had said in November that Asheville was selected because it is Whitaker's home.
