The Rainbow Community Center's Christmas in Porterdale event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Clara Lett, director of the center, which serves as the county's only homeless shelter, and volunteers will distribute bags of food purchased from the Atlanta Food Bank to residents. Clothes and other items will also be for sale, and the youth group from The Church at Covington will perform. Last year, more than 100 families were served at the event, Lett said. Many elderly people also benefit from the event, she said, adding volunteers will provide transportation for residents without vehicles.
