CONYERS - Several local softball players have been named to the 8-AAAA All-Area softball team.

Local first-team selections are: Sierra Petree (infielder, Eastside), Whitney Phillips (infielder, Heritage), Kaitlin Overstreet (infielder, Rockdale), Brianna Chambers (outfielder, Eastside), Brandi Richards (pitcher, Eastside), Jessie Holmes (pitcher, Rockdale), and Ashleigh George (catcher, Rockdale).

For Eastside, Petree recorded a .398 batting average with 35 hits and 26 RBIs. Chambers hit at a .344 clip with 32 hits and nine RBIs for the Lady Eagles, while Richards posted a 12-2 mark in the circle with a 1.46 ERA.

Holmes was outstanding in the circle for Rockdale, chalking up a record of 17-7 with 228 strikeouts. George hit a team-high .541 for the Lady Bulldogs with 40 hits, while Overstreet had 36 hits, 16 RBIs and a .401 batting average.

Heritage's Phillips had a batting average of .323 and stole 15 bases.

Local players on the All-Area 8-AAAA second team include: Amber Melton (infielder, Alcovy), Kat Baize (infielder, Heritage), Kayla Kelly (infielder, Rockdale), Sabrina Chandler (outfielder, Eastside), Katelyn Baker (outfielder, Rockdale), Rikki Powers (pitcher, Eastside), Jamie Melson (pitcher, Heritage), and Shelly Alliston (catcher, Salem).

Melton, the lone representative from Alcovy on the squad, batted .318 and recorded two home runs.

Baize played first base and hit .290 for the Lady Patriots, while Melson recorded a 14-12 record and 120 strikeouts in the circle.

Rockdale's Kelly had 724 hits, six RBIs, and a .308 batting average. Baker hit. 271 for the Lady Bulldogs with 19 hits and five RBIs.

Alliston, who played catcher for Salem, batted .255 with 10 RBIs.
