Covington Police Department Officer Jeff Bruno helps a youngster select a gift at Wal-Mart Supercenter on Tuesday afternoon as the "Shop with a Cop" program got under way. Each of the 20 school-age participants were given $100 by Wal-Mart to spend on clothes and toys for Christmas. This young lady was thinking of others as she used her stipend to shop for her parents and three siblings. Twenty kids in the custody of the Department of Family and Children Services were escorted around the store by law enforcement officers with the CPD and Newton County Sheriff's Office who assisted them in making their purchases, according to Jerri Bridges, a resource developer with Newton County Department of Family and Children's Services. Following the shopping spree, the kids were treated to a pizza party courtesy of Papa John's and Wal-Mart.
