CLARKSTON - Defense was the name of the game Saturday as Rockdale's basketball teams rolled to a sweep at Clarkston.
The Rockdale boys improved to 4-1 on the year with a 44-29 win in the opener, while the Lady Bulldogs (2-3) prevailed 41-23 in the nightcap.
Rockdale boys coach Mitchell Harris was pleased to get the win, especially in a game he felt too many fouls were called.
"My players work hard in practice," he said. "They work to be the best that they can be and they do what they're supposed to do. I want to make sure that they're getting a fair opportunity to be successful against everybody."
Despite an overall lack of offense by both teams, Rockdale's Darius McKnight was able to post a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds.
The Rockdale girls also won in a game where defense ruled the court.
Only in this game, the Rockdale girls received scoring contributions from 12 of the 13 players who dressed for the game.
Nicole Cuffy, Jasmine Miller, Sherry Allen and Aseelah Mazone all led the scoring charge with five points apiece.
Besides the evenly distributed scoring, Rockdale girls coach Leonard Buckner said he was also pleased with the patience his team showed.
"We were more patient on offense. We let everything develop and didn't rush," he said. "They're a young team and they have to understand that they can't go down the court and take quick shots and not hit them."
Rockdale hits the court again at home Friday night in a doubleheader with McNair. The girls game starts at 6 p.m.
