ATLANTA - Rockdale's swimming teams swept the competition Thursday night in a meet at the Rosell Fann Recreation Center.
The Bulldogs took the top spot with 171 points, while the Lady Bulldogs swam their way to victory with 188 points. Grady finished second on both sides, while Mays finished third and North Atlanta took fourth.
The Rockdale boys took first in the 200-yard medley relay in 2 minutes, 2.44 seconds, and the 200 freestyle relay (1:46.60). The Bulldogs also took second in the 400 freestyle relay (2:35.19).
Ryan Young finished first in the 100 freestyle (59.38), while Aaron Bullock (200 freestyle), Kari Logan (200 individual medley), Josh Lambo (50 freestyle), Buck Farmer (100 freestyle), Jake Grant (500 freestyle), Chris Montalvo (100 backstroke) and Josh Lambo (100 breaststroke) all placed second in their respective events.
The girls also had a solid showing, notching victories in the 200 medley relay (2:08.85), the 200 freestyle relay (1:54.63) and 400 freestyle relay (4:17.97).
Individually, the Rockdale girls received top finishes from Lauren Troxler (50 freestyle, 26.52) and Melanie Wright (100 butterfly, 1:07.40).
Miranda Wright (200 individual medley), Nicole Young (50 free), Katie Newman (100 freestyle), Emily Boyer (500 freestyle) and Patty Murphy (100 breaststroke) all notched second-place ribbons in their events.
Rockdale coach Stephen Sansing said it was a good experience for his team to go on the road and get a win.
"It was great to travel to someone else's pool and not just win on the girls side, but the boys side as well," Sansing said. "The guys have started putting it together, and when they all get it, they have a chance to be good. We had 29 personal bests set last night, which is awesome. We're getting to the point where we will have some quality depth in each event. The mind-set at Rockdale is changing - the boys and girls both finished second last week, but we know that's not good enough. As we get deeper, the better we'll be."
