DANIELSVILLE - The Eastside boys pulled out a stunning victory in dramatic fashion Friday night, topping Madison County 60-59 in triple overtime.
"It was a heart-pounding win," Eastside boys coach Michael Gerald said. "We're pleased to get a win. Madison County is a tough place to play; I give them the utmost respect. They kept coming at us. Fortunately, we had some people step up and we were able to come away with a victory." The Eagles were led by Cameron Robinson who scored a team-high 17 points. Neil Lattimore and Artis Clanton each chipped in 14 points, while Gabe Mathis scored eight in the win. The win moves Eastside to 5-1 on the season. The Eagles play again Tuesday at home against Loganville. BOYS Newton 82, Lithonia 52 LITHONIA - The Newton boys moved to 3-1 on the season and 1-1 in Region 2-AAAAA play after capturing an 82-52 win over Lithonia on Friday. Eleven different rams scored on the night, but it was Jamon Hawkins who led the way with 16 points, five rebounds and four assists. Hawkins hit three 3-pointers on the night. Montrell Grimes (nine rebounds), Sean Monk (15 points) also played well for the Rams. "It was nice to get a win. We were upset about losing a close game at home to Douglass on Tuesday, so it was good to get back in the win column our next time out," Newton boys coach Rick Rasmussen said. Tee Farley provided the boost for the Rams, scoring eight points in the first quarter. Monk scored 10 of his 15 in the third quarter to help put Lithonia away. The Rams play again today at home against Salem. Rockdale 76, Winder-Barrow 71 WINDER - The Rockdale boys moved to 3-1 on the season after collecting a 76-71 victory over Winder-Barrow on Friday. Darius McKnight led the way for the Bulldogs with a 24-point effort. Kevin Ware was also key for the Bulldogs with 19 points. "They (Winder) are a very tough team. I'm encouraged that we were able to show up and match their athleticism tonight," Rockdale boys coach Mitchell Harris said. Rockdale hits the court again today at 4 p.m. against Clarkston. GIRLS Heritage 74, Habersham Central 52 MOUNT AIRY - The Heritage girls rolled to a 74-52 win over Habersham Central on Friday. Precious Elkins and Sylvia Elkins each scored 15 points in the win. Neice Lewis and Jasmine Middlebrooks each scored 13, while Sarah Herrington chipped in 11. The Lady Patriots play again today at home against Alpharetta.
