Dingler to seek new term

COVINGTON - Newton County Tax Commissioner Barbara Dingler has announced she is seeking re-election.

Dingler is running as a Republican in the July 15 general primary.

Dingler was appointed tax commissioner in 1999 to fill the unexpired term of Carol Harris. She was elected in 2000.

Since taking office, Dingler said she has reported a collection rate of real and personal property at more than 99.81 percent for 2006 and prior years.

She has also implemented an online registration renewal and payment process.

"My next goal is to have a satellite office in the western part of the county. For the last two years, I have been working with the Board of Commissioners, and recently with Commissioner (Earnest) Simmons, so, hopefully, it will become a reality. I will not give up until it is approved," Dingler said. "I will continue to update (by) any means possible to provide the best customer services to you, the citizens of Newton County."

Born in Newton County, Dingler, 49, is a graduate of Newton County High School.

She is a member of the Georgia Association of Tax Officials, the Tax Commissioners' Technology Development Council of Georgia and the Constitutional Officers' Association of Georgia.

She is also a member of the Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce and the Newton County Republican Party.

She is married to Keith Dingler and has two children, Melissa and David.

Dingler will face Covington-Newton County United Way Director Doris

Strickland in the primary. The General Election is Nov. 4.
