Council meetings available online

COVINGTON - The public now has access to City Council meetings online.

Minutes of Covington City Council meetings will be posted on the city's Web site at www.cityofcovington.org beginning today.

The City Council approved the move in November at the request of Councilman Roger Tingler.

"A lot of people can't get to council meetings. They see the agenda on Cable TV, but then they don't ever know what the results were. I just thought it would be a great way to share that with them," Tingler said.

Minutes from the Nov. 20 council meeting should be posted today, said Bobby Johnson, the city's systems information manager.

Johnson said the minutes will be posted under the local government section.

In other news, the Covington Planning Commission will change meeting locations in January.

The Planning Commission now meets in the Building and Zoning Department behind City Hall.

Planning and Zoning Director Shelley Stiebling requested that the meetings be moved to the council room at City Hall at 2194 Emory St. to accommodate a larger audience.

The commission also recently changed its meeting time in order to better accommodate the public.

Regular meetings are now held at 6 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month. Work sessions are still held at 2 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month. December meetings will be held in the Building and Zoning Department.
