Two former Rockdale County high school football standouts played key roles in Central Florida's Conference USA championship season, which culminated with UCF's 44-25 win over Tulsa on Saturday.
During UCF's 36-20 victory over Texas-El Paso, former Heritage middle linebacker Chance Henderson recorded five solo tackles, one assist and one tackle for loss (minus-5 yards). Former Salem defensive tackle Torrell Johnson chipped in an assist and half a tackle for a loss.
During UCF's 49-20 victory over Southern Methodist two weeks ago, Henderson recorded six solo tackles, while Johnson had three solo tackles and one tackle for loss (minus-3 yards).
Morgan tallies assist in NCAA quarterfinal
Columbus State's Lindsey Morgan recorded an assist on a free kick in the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Quarterfinals against the University of Tampa.
The Lady Cougars fell to the University of Tampa in penalty kicks after two scoreless double overtimes.
Morgan, a former Rockdale standout, produced the game-tying goal in the 37th minute, setting up a header by Megan Honig.
Morgan, a junior, concluded the season with one goal, nine assists for CSU, which ended the year with its best mark in school history at 20-3-2.
Jett finishes career ranked seventh in OVC
Rockdale's Sarah Jett finished her career at UT-Martin ranked seventh all-time in the Ohio Valley Conference with 356 block assists.
The senior averaged a team-high 1.36 blocks per game this season for the Skyhawks. She finished second on the team in points (366.5) and kills (262).
Dobbs records double-double
Jaquas Dobbs, who played in the high school ranks at Heritage, recorded 16 points and 12 rebounds in Truett-McConnell College's 90-83 victory over Gordon College.
Dobbs is second on the Bears in scoring this season, averaging 12.8 points a contest. He is also averaging seven rebounds a game and shooting 56 percent from the field.
