COVINGTON - A Stone Mountain woman is recovering from injuries she sustained to her head and face after a female acquaintance reportedly attacked her with a broken cup.
According to Sgt. Sonny Goodson, investigator with the Newton County Sheriff's Office, the victim was at a friend's residence in the Shadowbrook subdivision off Kirkland Road about lunchtime Thursday, when the suspect showed up at the home, armed with either a tea cup or a coffee mug.
The female assailant allegedly then rushed inside the residence and began attacking the victim. At some point during the altercation, the cup was broken and the victim suffered large lacerations to her face.
"She had several massive cuts on her face," Goodson said.
Among the injuries sustained by the victim were a cut from her hairline to eyebrow, as well as a laceration just below her nose, which severed her top lip.
The victim was later treated and released from Rockdale Medical Center. Because she was sedated for her injuries, Goodson said he was unable to take a statement from the victim.
A witness told investigators that the victim and her attacker had exchanged words the night before at a party.
Goodson said that he expected to secure warrants for the suspect on assault charges and hoped to take her into custody on Friday.
